Sliema swimmers produced a fantastic performance in the 19thInternational Swimming Meet that was held at the National Pool between the 12th and the 14th of April. This great performance was well deserved knowing the fact that all swimmers and coaches put in a lot of energy and dedication in their training. The team included 24 swimmers who participated in a total of 132 races. The team managed to win 51 medals, which included 16 Gold, 26 Silver and 9 Bronze medals. Notably, the swimmers who attend our Swimming School produced a large number of Personal Bests (over 70 in 90 races).
A great performance indeed was shown by our 1999 boys as Matthew Micallef and Thomas Wearing dominated the category. Matthew won 5 Golds and 2 Silvers whilst Thomas managed 2 Golds, 4 silvers and 1 bronze. Young Kyle Buhagiar also obtained some fine results with a tally of four medals, whilst Jordan Calleja also won 4 Silver medals. National team swimmers, Andrea Agius, Daniel Galea, Jeffrey Galea and Matthew Galea as always produced some good results for our Team.
These meets also featured a number of teams from different countries such as the UK, France, Italy, Romania and Germany. The meet was of a very high standard and the organisation was impeccable thanks to Mr Mark Galea and his team.
Team spirit was high during the races as all the swimmers were cheered by their team mates and supporters during their respective races. All coaches were satisfied with the results obtained and the team is already preparing for the National Championships that will be held in July.
